Monckton Cycling Club


Monckton Cycling Club of  Royston Yorkshire was formed in 1925 as part of the Monkton Colliery Institute and Athletic  Club. The club had its own purpose built 586.666 yards (three laps to one mile) cycle track to the rear of the Athletic club house on Lundhill Lane. These two photographs were taken at the cycle track. Monkton C. C. was still registered with the Road Time Trials Council  in 1951 and had active members until about 1960.

This team of four cyclists competed in a short time trial, of two miles, on a cycle track and won area events in 1932, 1933 and 1934, please see the medals below.

(1hour 8 minutes 36 seconds is the time taken by Harry Mackfall of Monkton C.C. for the 25 miles time trial. He was a member of a team of three cyclists & aged 25 at the time.)
